Young Persons Team Leader
Job Introduction
At Turning Point, we support people across the UK with substance use and related health and wellbeing needs. Our Herefordshire Recovery Service delivers targeted, age-appropriate support to young people aged 11–17, young adults aged 18–24, as well as specialist support for families and carers.
Thanks to additional funding, we have an exciting opportunity for a new Team Leader to join our team. This role is a dedicated Young Person and Young Adults leadership position, responsible for overseeing the YP/YA and Families & Carers team. The service focuses not only on treatment and recovery, but also on early intervention, prevention, and community engagement, working proactively with schools, colleges, youth services, and local partners across Herefordshire.
As Team Leader, you will support the Operations Manager to help lead a team that is ambitious for young people’s outcomes, committed to safeguarding and trauma-informed practice, and passionate about building community connections that reduce harm and increase opportunity.
Role Responsibility
As the Young People & Young Adults Team Leader, you will:
- Provide day-to-day leadership and line management to a team of YP/YA Workers and Families & Carers practitioners.
- Work alongside the Operations Manager to develop, deliver, and continually improve the YP/YA service, ensuring outcomes, safeguarding standards, and quality requirements are met and exceeded.
- Leadon community engagement and outreach activity, including:
- Engagement with schools, colleges, and alternative education settings
- Attendance at community forums, youth events, and partnership meeting
- Promoting the service to increase early help, awareness, and access
- Build and maintain strong multi-agency partnerships with education providers, children’s services, youth justice, health, voluntary sector organisations, and community groups to enhance support for young people and young adults.
- Ensure effective safeguarding, risk management, and information sharing, with a clear understanding of thresholds and statutory responsibilities when working with children and young adults.
- Support staff development through regular supervision, appraisals, coaching, and reflective practice, creating a confident and skilled workforce
Our central hub is in Hereford, with satellite provision in Leominster, Ross-on-Wye, Bromyard, Kington, and Ledbury. A flexible approach and willingness to travel across the county is essential.
Starting salary £33,416 rising in line with our pay progression salary bands, to £39,093 per year.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be an experienced and motivated leader with a strong interest in young people and young adults' services, families and carers and community-based work
You will bring:
- Proven experience of leading, supervising, and developing staff, ideally within young people, youth justice, community, or health-based services.
- A clear understanding of the needs of young people, young adults, and families, including safeguarding, consent, confidentiality, and age-appropriate engagement.
- Knowledge of, treatment pathways, harm reduction, and recovery approaches, particularly substance use issues as they relate to younger populations and transitional age groups.
- Confidence in partnership working and external engagement, including working with schools and community organisations.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and support others.
- A flexible, solutions-focused, and recovery-oriented approach, able to adapt in a changing and dynamic service environment.
Experience or knowledge of detox, prescribing, overdose prevention, or early intervention models would be advantageous, but a passion for learning and development is essential.
