Smoking Cessation Team Leader - DAWS & Stop Smoking Wellbeing Service

Turning Point’s drug & alcohol services are currently expanding during a really exciting time in the sector with new funding and investment, with additions of Smoking Cessation support within service provisions. We have a range of roles for people passionate about supporting others to make change. We have roles in different teams including:
- Community based treatment services: providing assessment, coordinating treatment and working partnership to support individuals. The roles include delivering structured psycho-social interventions in group and one to level to enable our service users to acquire thinking skills and behaviours to make lasting change.
- Homeless outreach provision: Targeting homeless individuals, offering a flexible and outreach response to highly vulnerable individuals sleeping rough or living in temporary accommodation.
- Criminal Justice rehabilitation/recovery services: working closely with the Probation Services, Prisons and Police to provide a rapid, tailored response to individuals that support their recovery and rehabilitation.
- To manage the health promotion team and lead the delivery of smoking cessation interventions to effectively reduce the smoking prevalence and meet the need of identified groups in the community.
- To assist in delivering Turning Point’s Public Health and Substance Use (PHSU) strategy within a multi-disciplinary service which reflects our person-centred values and the high level of ambition we have both for the people we support and the development of our own teams.
As a Team Leader we offer a starting salary of £34,335 + £3,633 ILW rising each year in line with our pay progression salary bands, rising to £40,167 per year + £3,633 ILW. (Dependent on experience you may be offered a starting salary above the initial starting salary).

Role Responsibility
- Provide a leadership and service management role in planning, development, implementation and coordination of the stop smoking service;
- Be an ambassador within the multi-disciplinary service in raising aware of smoking cessation and the importance in providing targeted work identified groups in the community
- Identify and engage with individuals from agreed target groups and communities to facilitate communication regarding their access to and experience of the Smoking Cessation service
- Liaise with key partner organisations such as; community organisations, mental health service providers, hospitals, maternity care, to promote a strong awareness of the service and embed effective referral pathways
- Be actively involved in the awareness, promotion and marketing of the smoking cessation service, both externally and internally
- Maintain an up to date knowledge of public health research and best practice to disseminate to colleagues and key partners
- To develop and coordinate competence across the multi-disciplinary service for the delivery of very brief advice and practitioner level smoking cessation practice, including the management of a team of Health Promotion Workers to ensure the service provides evidence-based, effective interventions;
- Line manage a team of Health Promotion Workers and be responsible for supervision and day to day management
- Support the Health Promotion team with their professional development, ensuring audits and observations are scheduled regularly
- Support the Smoking Cessation service functionally by providing support to individuals to ensure the development of effective smoking cessation plans and support behaviour change
- Support the development of competency across the service by leading on the implementation of a robust training and mentoring programme for VBA, practitioner level and update training for all colleagues within the service and subcontracted providers/partners
- Liaise with and co-ordinate the work of any colleague trained to practitioner level, ensuring any clinics are staffed and time is used effectively and efficiently
- Manage team structures to ensure contractual KPIs are being met, actively recruiting for new roles when necessary in agreement with the Operations Manager
The Ideal Candidate
Essential Requirements:
- Demonstratable leadership skills and flexible and adaptable leadership style;
- In depth understanding and ability to operationally and performance manage the functions of the team I lead;
- Excellent communication skills (verbal/written). Ability to adapt to respond to staff, commissioners/partners and people we support;
- Strong organisational, time management and prioritisation skills;
- Ability to remain calm and resilient in high pressure environments;
- In-depth understanding of smoking cessation delivery.
- Competent in delivering smoking cessation interventions at NCSCT practitioner level
- Understanding and ability to successfully manage delivery methods in smoking cessation including best practice behaviour change approaches and pharmacotherapy delivery.
- Understanding and ability to successfully apply effective community engagement principles to own and others work
- Up to date with the broad health improvement agenda including understanding and adopting appropriate policies, principles, research and best practice guidelines to ensure successful delivery.
Desirable:
- Previous experience managing similar service/team
- Management qualification or equivalent
- In-depth understanding of the needs of people with a higher prevalence of smoking e.g. drug and alcohol issues, mental health issues, prison leavers/probation, pregnant women
- Competent in delivering smoking cessation interventions at NCSCT specialist practitioner level
