Recovery Worker (FTC) - Hereford

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

Fixed Term Contract – Up to 7 Months + Possible Extension Subject to Funding

At Turning Point, we support people across the UK with substance misuse issues. Our Herefordshire Recovery Service went live in April 2021 and responds to the needs of people across the county. As a Recovery Worker within the Herefordshire Recovery Service, you’ll make a real difference as you empower and enable people to change. Passionate about people, you’ll enjoy support to enhance your own life too, as you make the role your own in a friendly and multidisciplinary team.

We have an exciting opportunity to support our criminal justice provision and support a reduction in the number of people re-offending, as well as promoting health and wellbeing to reduce the risk of drug-related deaths. Funding for these roles is currently in place until 30th June 2022 and we are hopeful further funding will be available beyond this date.

Role Responsibility

We have a range of roles in Herefordshire providing assessments, treatment, psychosocial interventions, and care to drug and alcohol users. These roles will be based with our criminal justice team. You will join a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, recovery workers and peer mentors and be required to work alongside a range of partners in criminal justice, housing and health and social care.

You will be responsible for proactive outreach engagement through criminal justice pathways, including prison, police custody and courts and will offer a range of interventions to engage people into treatment and support their efforts to reduce the impact of the drug or alcohol use, further criminal activity and promote harm reduction advice to reduce the risk of drug-related deaths.

The Ideal Candidate

Previous experience of working in criminal justice or outreach settings will be advantageous.

You’ll understand alcohol and other substance misuse issues and the challenges and opportunities for individuals on a recovery journey. The roles are varied, so flexibility, an ability to work dynamically on a one-to-one and group basis, and knowledge of relapse prevention and other skills to promote recovery will be vital. We also look for candidates with excellent communication and organisational skills who share our values as an organisation.

We value individual creativity and initiative and, whatever your role, you will be fully involved in identifying opportunities to improve the quality of our services and the service user experience. Your ideas will be listened to, and your suggestions implemented wherever possible. You will be supported in your role by extensive training to help develop your skills. Our learning culture encourages everyone to stay on top of the latest developments in their field and helps drive service improvement.
