Family & Carers Recovery Worker - SDAS (Taunton)

Job Introduction

Please Note: A Full UK Driving License and Access to a Vehicle is an Essential Requirement.

Part Time: 22.5 Hours Per Week / 3 Days Per Week

At Turning Point, we provide services across the whole country which deliver end to end drug and alcohol treatment and support, family services, housing advice and support for those in contact with the criminal justice system, needle exchange services, and custody outreach. We are specialist in delivering whole treatment system approaches across counties, this has led to a reduction in people falling through gaps between services and has delivered improved outcomes.

Turning Point supports people across the UK with substance use issues and we are currently recruiting for a Family & Carers Recovery Worker. You will join our integrated service which delivers treatment across Somerset.

As a Family & Carers Recovery Worker we offer a starting salary of £24,150 rising each year in line with our pay progression salary bands, rising to £28,252 per year (Pro-Rata). (Dependent on experience you may be offered a starting salary above the initial starting salary).

Role Responsibility

  • Working directly with family members on an individual or group basis to offer structured support through the 5 steps approach;
  • Focus on putting the family member affected by someone else’s substance use first by offering them support, regardless of the behaviour of the user or whether they are engaged with treatment.
  • Facilitating Family and Carers Peer Support groups.
  • Recognising the professional duty of care to protect where family members present a risk to themselves or others, follow local and national legislative practice, complying with statutory requirements regarding child protection.
  • Understanding confidentiality and consent and ensuring duties are carried out with due regard to and compliance with the Data Protection Act and other legislation.
  • Delivering high quality person-centred interventions with family members in accordance with their needs, providing frequent key work sessions.
  • When needed/appropriate, to transport family members as part of your engagement with them.
  • Delivering interventions at times and places to suit family members.
  • Attending statutory safeguarding meetings

The Ideal Candidate

Having handled a significant caseload in a busy environment as a Family worker, Recovery Worker, Outreach Worker or similar, you'll have a deep understanding of substance use, and the impact of an individulas use on the wider family. It's an extremely varied role, so flexibility and knowledge of relapse and other barriers to recovery will be vital. We are looking for someone with excellent engagement and communication skills and, ideally, a vocational qualification, such as an NVQ 3 or equivalent.

The managing of a caseload, faciltating group work, engaging family members in one to one support are just some of the varied duties you will be providing.
