Clinical Lead - Smithfield In Patient Detoxification Service

We are currently recruiting for a doctor to work as the Clinical Lead for our in-patient unit at Smithfield in Manchester, where you will have the chance to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support who are experiencing difficulties from drugs and alcohol use.

We are looking for a Part-time Clinical Lead to oversee admissions and the clinical care of service users who are resident in the unit, as well as provide clinical leadership, including provision of training and supervision for clinical colleagues.

The Clinical Lead should be a specialist in addiction treatment, though does not have to have worked in an in-patient setting before.

The role is part-time. We are looking for the right candidate for the role, and the Clinical Lead does not have to cover every clinical session, but if they did not, they would provide clinical supervision for other doctors that covered the other sessions.

 

Role Responsibility

As the Specialist Doctor / Clinical Lead for the service, you will provide safe, effective and evidence-based care and interventions to service users admitted to the unit. Your caseload will be complex, often treating service users with co-occurring conditions, and you will oversee detoxification and stabilisation regimes for a range of substances, including alcohol, opiates, benzodiazepines and others.

You will have a key role in clinical leadership, comprising clinical governance and innovation, supervision, appraisal and training and service development. You will also link in with clinical colleagues across Turning Point, and provide into the network of Clinical Leads for the purpose of governance and peer support / CPD.

You should have extensive experience of working in the substance use field and play a key role in the on-going delivery of high -quality clinical interventions. You will work closely with the Smithfield management team, clinical team (including nurses and non-medical prescribers), local healthcare professionals and key stakeholders to provide holistic care packages for service users before, during and after admission to Smithfield.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Appropriate experience in addiction medicine at a clinical leadership level:
    • Be a ‘Specialist’ doctor in addiction: either a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist or a specialist doctor from another background such as General Practice, who has the appropriate experience & qualifications (as per the RCPsych / RCGP Competency Framework)

  • Current GMC Registration
  • Experience of providing safe, effective and evidence-based assessment, care and interventions for substance users

Part-time role:

  • Clinical leadership roles: one session per week
  • Clinical sessions / admissions: every afternoon Monday to Friday (though times flexible)
  • The role is part-time, with a minimum requirement of 0.2 - 0.25 WTE (2 or 3 sessions per week)– up to a maximum of 0.5 – 0.6 WTE (5 or 6 sessions per week)
