Young People’s Substance Misuse Practitioner

Job Introduction

At Turning Point, we support people across the UK with substance misuse issues. As a Young Persons Substance Misuse Practitioner in South Tyneside, you will work in collaboration with partner agencies including Children’s Services and Youth Justice. This post will be based within the multi-agency Matrix Young People’s Service.

Working in a variety of settings, you will develop personal, flexible and realistic support packages based on young people’s individual circumstances and complexities. In this demanding but fulfilling role a tenacious approach is required to maximise attendance and engagement opportunities for those ambivalent or resistant to change.

Role Responsibility

Working one to one with young people, you will be undertaking comprehensive assessments and care planned interventions using a person-centred approach whilst holding a varied caseload based on vulnerability and risk. The role requires excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships with young people, families and other professionals ensuring a holistic and strength based approach to meeting young people’s needs.

The role of Substance Misuse Practitioner has plenty of variety and challenges. The role is both centre based and outreach across South Tyneside. You will be expected to approach things methodically and responsively and also have strong IT skills as you will be expected to produce reports and keep case files up to date. Some knowledge of substance misuse issues is required and ideally a relevant qualification also a comprehensive knowledge of safeguarding. Given the variety of settings a driving license and access to a car would be advantageous. This post also requires an enhanced DBS.
