Volunteer and Peer Mentor Team Leader - Herefordshire

Our Herefordshire Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service is a fully integrated adult service delivered by Turning Point. There is a focus on partnership working throughout the service to support those in the local community who need assistance to achieve their goals. We deliver treatment and support across the whole of Herefordshire ensuring a holistic and inclusive approach to recovery in this exciting new service.
We are currently recruiting for a Team Leader to oversee our Volunteer, Peer Mentor and Service User Involvement pathway. As part of this role, you’ll have the chance to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support who are experiencing difficulties from drugs and alcohol usage and help develop the skills of people passionate about recovery and giving back to the local community.
Role Responsibility
To lead and develop the volunteer and peer mentor team to support the delivery of high-quality person-centred services as directed by the Operations Manager in line with Business Plan and best practice standards. To work as a key member of the team in delivering the Service. To ensure Turning Point’s vision and values are embedded in the team. To ensure all statutory requirements of the service specification are met.
The Team Leader will be directly responsible for our volunteer, peer mentor and service user involvement pathway, ensuring that we follow an annual recruitment, training and induction plan for volunteers and peer mentors. Delivering a training programme periodically throughout the year, empowering volunteers, and peer mentors to contribute to the successful outcomes of the service in meeting the needs of service users.
As part of this role, the successful candidate will lead on service user involvement locally, ensuring that all service users are able to provide feedback, which is responded to in line with our feedback policy and learning is shared with staff and the wider organisation as needed. You will work closely with our partner, Healthwatch Herefordshire, and ensure service user involvement is at the heart of what we do, including the design of new service provisions, promotional material, and recruitment.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential Requirements:
- Proven track record in relevant area
- In depth knowledge of relevant theory and practice
- Experience of supervising and leading a team
- Experience of working towards achieving individual and team objectives
- Numeracy, literacy and IT skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills, and ability to adapt communication to suit the audience, e.g. service users, commissioners or staff
- Good time management and able to work to deadlines
- A participative leadership and management style in normal circumstances
- In depth knowledge and understanding of the complex and multiple needs faced by the service user group
- In depth knowledge and understanding of the Valuing People framework
- A demonstrable belief in a values-led approach to working with service users with a Substance Misuse issue.
- Demonstrable track record that is DANOS compliant
- Knowledge and experience of developing, implementing, and reviewing substance misuse-related interventions, i.e. group work programmes and training
- A sound working knowledge of current legislation (e.g. Models of Care) and the ability to translate this into practice
