Team Leader - The Mill

Job Introduction

At Turning Point, we support people with Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Substance Misuse across England.

The successful candidate will work as a part of a team based at The Mill in Leyland Lancashire. The Mill is a supported living service for 12 young people (Aged 16- 21) who are threatened with homelessness/ leaving care/ looked after children  or are young people at risk. 

As a Team Leader you will have knowledge and experience of working with young people with complex needs, homelessness, children who are looked after and in transition from leaving care or care leavers who struggle to maintain a tenancy as a result of complex an unmet need.

 You will be able to support young people and to maximise their benefits, gain independent living skills, promote independence, health wellbeing and healthy lifestyle choices as well as supporting them to maximise their involvement in local training, education, and employment opportunities. 

Role Responsibility

You will support the management of this service, providing line management to the team and enabling the service to meet and exceed outcomes and quality requirements that promote independence, self– management and resilience for the young people we support.

You will have oversight of referrals to the service and will work closely with The Local authority and voluntary organisations to ensure the best possible outcomes for the young people. A background in leading and managing teams in an environment supporting vulnerable people is essential.  Experience of service planning and ensuring that services are well positioned to meet contractual requirements and regulatory standards requirements would also be advantageous.  

You will also have experience of working with young people with complex needs.  You will be required to work flexibly including some evenings/weekend/shift work as required and be part of an on-call rota. You will have line management responsibility for a team of 4-6 Project Workers and Support Workers.

The Ideal Candidate

As Team Leader you will have good understanding of the young people needs including the 16–17-year-old Protocol (child in need) and Leaving Care agenda. You need to have a good understanding of the challenges experienced by young people leaving care and those with complex needs.

We are looking for candidates with experience of supervising a team and of working towards achieving individual and team objectives. Ability to work in a outcome based, person centred and non-judgemental manner is essential. You need to have a proven track record in managing incidents of verbal and physical aggression.

You will have experience of managing the budget and ensuring that resources are managed efficiently. Demonstrate robust understanding of Health and Safety standards and ensure these are maintained and risk is mitigated to the lowest level possible. Capability of prioritising own workload and using own initiative. An effective team player, you will possess good communication skills, a positive attitude and be able to adapt in a changeable environment.
