Team Leader (Specialist) - Birmingham Social Prescribing

Turning Point is a leading Social Enterprise which supports people with a wide range of complex needs across Learning Disabilities, Mental Health, Substance Misuse and Public Health. Right now, we are now looking for a talented candidate to work within our new Social Prescribing service in Birmingham as a Team Leader.

Successful candidates will specialise in one of the below divisions of the team, whilst also having experience in the other areas:

  • Substance Misuse
  • Homelessness 
  • Learning Disability & Autism
  • Complex Mental Health

Role Responsibility

The Team Leader will lead and manage the service and team in order to empower individuals within the geographical region assigned and surrounding areas , to take control of their health and wellbeing by supporting people over time, focusing on ‘what matters to me’ and take a holistic approach to improving an individual’s health and wellbeing.

The Team leader will provide line management support and supervision to the specialist link worker team, provide advice and support on the role of a specialist link worker, managing a caseload of clients with a range of support needs focusing on Individual Goal Setting, Motivational Interviewing and Health Coaching. They will also liaise with the various partners and Steering Group on behalf of the Link Workers they manage.

As well as having line management responsibility the Team Leaders will also hold a caseload, which will include; providing personalised information and advice via 1 to 1 sessions.

Together with social prescribing link workers, the team leader will work as a key part of the primary care network (PCN) multidisciplinary team.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven track record in relevant area
  • In depth knowledge of relevant theory and practice
  • Experience of supervising a team
  • Experience of working towards achieving individual and team objectives
  • Numeracy, literacy and IT skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and ability to adapt communication to suit the audience, e.g. service users, commissioners or staff
  • Good time management and able to work to deadlines
  • A participative leadership and management style in normal circumstances
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the complex and multiple needs faced by the service user group
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the Valuing People framework
  • A demonstrable belief in a values-led approach to working with service users with multiple and complex issues
  • Knowledge and experience of developing, implementing and reviewing substance interventions for individuals with multiple or complex issues, i.e. group work programmes
  • A sound working knowledge of current legislation (e.g. Models of Care) and the ability to translate this into practice
