Team Leader - Herefordshire

Job Introduction

By providing the right support at the right time and making sure that people can find all the help they need, we have grown into one of the largest providers of substance misuse services in England and Wales.

Our Herefordshire (West Midlands) Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service is a fully integrated young people and adult service delivered by Turning Point. There is a focus on partnership working throughout the service to support those in the local community who need assistance to achieve their goals. We deliver treatment and support across the whole of Herefordshire ensuring a holistic and inclusive approach to recovery in this exciting new service. Our central hub is located in Hereford town, with satellite provision in Leominster, Ross, Bromyard, and Ledbury.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Team Leader to oversee our Outreach and Engagement Team.  As part of this role, you’ll have the chance to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support who are experiencing difficulties from drugs and alcohol usage, helping shape how the service is delivered.

Role Responsibility

To lead and develop the team to deliver high quality person centred services as directed by the Operations Manager in line with the Business Plan and best practice standards. To work as a key member of the team in delivering the Service. To ensure Turning Point’s vision and values are embedded in the team. To ensure all statutory requirements of the service specification are met.

The Team Leader will support the Outreach and Engagement Team to achieve the highest standards of care, offering regular supervision and professional development in line with Turning Point procedures. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring performance objectives are met, that service users receive the highest standard of treatment and staff are supported to deliver outcomes in line with the service model. Part of the role will also involve working closely with local partners and stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of the service.

The Team Leader will empower staff to offer a proactive outreach service, and support the engagement of hard to reach clients, those who may be reluctant to engage with services, and people across a diverse range of environments (including people in hostels). The Team Leader will also oversee the Criminal Justice Pathway, which is delivered by the Criminal Justice Lead, and have responsibility for the Young People’s Service. There will be opportunities to lead innovative practice across the county, working closely with partner agencies and as part of a multi-disciplinary team of Recovery Workers, Clinical Staff, Volunteers, and Senior Managers.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven track record in relevant area
  • In depth knowledge of relevant theory and practice
  • Experience of supervising and leading a team
  • Experience of working towards achieving individual and team objectives
  • Numeracy, literacy and IT skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and ability to adapt communication to suit the audience, e.g. service users, commissioners or staff
  • Good time management and able to work to deadlines
  • A participative leadership and management style in normal circumstances
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the complex and multiple needs faced by the service user group
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the Valuing People framework
  • A demonstrable belief in a values-led approach to working with service users with a Substance Misuse issue.
  • Demonstrable track record that is DANOS compliant
  • Knowledge and experience of developing, implementing and reviewing substance misuse-related interventions, i.e. group work programmes
  • A sound working knowledge of current legislation (e.g. Models of Care) and the ability to translate this into practice
