Team Leader - HMP Thameside - Internal Applications Only

Job Introduction

At Turning Point, we support people across England with substance misuse issues. As a Throughcare Team Leader, you'll make a real difference to their lives as you develop the personal, flexible and realistic support packages they need to help turn things around.

The role is based at HMP Thameside, a Category B prison in South London. At HMP Thameside, we provide an integrated model of psycho-social and clinical support, which is evidence based and focused on meeting complex individual needs.

Role Responsibility

As a Team Leader within HMP Thameside you will manage a busy team of Wellbeing Workers holding caseloads of substance using clients. You will provide line management to a number of staff and support them to provide high quality psychosocial interventions leading to successful outcomes for residents of HMP Thameside. A track record of delivering this previously will greatly support your application.

You will have experience in and a passion for working with substance users and understand the importance of meeting regulatory requirements within the service.

Partnership working will play an important role in your day to day work and you will have experience in building and maintaining excellent relationships with local and national organisations to support the work of the service. Internally you will work closely with other managers and staff from teams across the service. Exceptional organisational skills are essential for this pivotal role in a very busy service.

Your role will require you to manage / oversee / attend meetings related to:

  • Regular Supervision with Line Reports
  • Safeguarding / Referral / Follow Up / Monthly Governance meeting with Service Leads
  • Represent Turning Point at the internal Safer Prisons meeting focusing on best outcomes for complex clients be it:
  • Violent
  • Self Harm / Suicide
  • Debt
  • Social Isolation
  • Victim / Vulnerable Prisoners
  • Close working relationship with Probation / Offender management unit and representing Turning Point at the Interdepartmental Risk Management Meeting
  • Oversee safe delivery of Program Interventions within the service

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven track record in Managing People / Experience of supervising a team
  • In depth knowledge of relevant theory and practice
  • Experience of working towards achieving individual and team objectives
  • Numeracy, literacy and IT skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and ability to adapt communication to suit the audience, e.g. service users, commissioners or staff
  • Good time management and able to work to deadlines
  • A participative leadership and management style in normal circumstances
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the complex and multiple needs faced by the service user group
  • In depth knowledge of 10 year Harm to Hope Strategy
  • A demonstrable belief in a values-led approach to working with service users with a Substance Misuse issue.
  • Knowledge and experience of developing, implementing and reviewing substance misuse-related interventions, i.e. group work programmes
  • A sound working knowledge of current legislation (e.g. Models of Care) and the ability to translate this into practice
