Where will I be working?
You will be working at one of our services in Leamington Spa.
Marloes Walk is located in Sydenham and is within walkable distance to Leamington Spa. There are 8 individuals we support who have profound, multiple Learning Disabilities with additional health issues such as epilepsy & congenital conditions. Some have high support needs, mobility issues and require lots of personal care. Staff will develop communication skills such as knowledge of signing / visual aids as some are non-verbal. We endeavour to create positive family relationships offering a good circle of support. Marloes Walk is a well- regarded service with a community feel and during the summer months we hold lots of events.
Russell Terrace is a registered care unit with a happy, family atmosphere, providing support to 5 individuals aged between 20 to 60 years old with profound Learning Disabilities, all of whom are non-verbal and fully mobile and active. Our individuals require varying levels of personal care and there is one to one support required for two of the individuals we support.
Willes Road is a well-established service with good relationships – it’s like a big, hectic family with a lively group dynamic. All the people we look after are fully mobile and active and you will work in a busy and lively environment. We accommodate for up to 8 individuals aged between 20 to 40 years old with mild to profound Learning Disabilities with some challenging behaviours. Staff are trained in positive support strategies and person centred approaches. All those we support require one to one care which is quite intensive, offering positive and rewarding relationships with a focus on the individual.
This is a 24 hour service, therefore flexibility is essential. You will be working a range of shifts from 7:00/8:00 am to 2:00/3:00 pm and from 2:00/3:00 pm to 9:00/10:00 pm, sleep ins or waking nights, some weekends.
Please note that working hours may vary from service to service.
What will I be doing?
This is a hands-on job in which no two days are the same. Your duties will include:
- promoting the independence of people we support
- supporting a full range of daily activities including cleaning and cooking, days out or going away on holiday
- arranging activities in the home and in the local community
- developing residents' life skills and personal interests
- helping residents stay safe and healthy
- assisting with personal care needs
- manual handling
- supporting people with medication
- ensuring record keeping is maintained to the required standard at all times and contributing to service monitoring requirements.
The Ideal Candidate
What skills and qualities do I need to have?
Whilst knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs would be beneficial, it isn't essential. What is essential is that you are:
- passionate, caring and enthusiastic
- flexible, patient and non-judgemental
- a great team player with lots of energy
- able to demonstrate good communication skills
- able to complete the physical aspects of the role such as manual handling where needed
- transferable experience of helping people to manage anxiety
