Job Introduction

Fixed Term Contract - Up to 17 Months

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Turning Point’s Leicestershire Substance Misuse Services as a Harm Reduction Support Worker. You will join our large integrated service which delivers treatment across the whole of Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland. We have opportunities within Leicester City but also within various areas across the county.

The role will be based in one of our hubs in Leicester City, Loughborough or Coalville however you may need to deliver outreach at other locations around the county. Willingness to travel is therefore essential, but own transport is not. The role may include regular working on a Saturday and weekday evenings therefore flexibility in working hours is essential.

Role Responsibility

Your role will be fast paced and highly varied and is all about reducing the risks of harm to those who are using drugs.

You will act as the front face of the service running our open access provision, dealing with service users presenting in crisis, taking referrals and offering a high quality needle exchange service. You will also spend time doing outreach, going out onto the streets to proactively engage with service users and increase uptake into treatment. You will also spend time working alongside partner agencies such as pharmacies, hostels and criminal justice agencies to maximise engagement into treatment.

You will work collaboratively with all staff across the service including Recovery Workers, our Clinical team and our Peer Mentors who are experts through their own experience of accessing our services.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be passionate about making a real difference to the life of substance users and demonstrate positivity, enthusiasm and a belief in recovery. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from people who have their own experience of having used drugs and successfully turned their lives around to achieve recovery.
