Specialist Practitioner – Mental Health/Forensic

Hours – 37 per week. Flexibility around hours, which may include some occasional evening and weekend work.

Travel required nationally and will involve regular overnight stays – expenses paid for travel and accommodation.

Candidates may be based anywhere in the UK.

At Turning Point, we support people with Learning Disabilities and Mental Health conditions across England. We support Adults of all ages with conditions such as Autism (across the Spectrum), behaviours of concern, complex emotional and health needs.

This is a great opportunity for an individual with a background in supporting people with Learning disability/mental health needs in forensic settings who has a genuine passion for supporting people with Autism and/or behaviours of concern, to work towards achieving their potential. This role could mark the next step for someone who has enjoyed making a positive difference for individuals they work with and may now want to make this impact on a wider scale. This role would also be ideal for an individual who is looking to develop a specialism in Positive Behaviour Support, as CPD and coaching can be provided.

Role Responsibility

This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative small team working nationally within the Learning Disability and Mental Health business unit, influencing best practice for the people we are supporting.
You will be required to be flexible and divide your time between working from home and travelling to visit services nationwide.

The innovative nature of the team will allow you to have an opportunity to really influence change on an individual and organisational level. This also means you will be able to play a role in shaping the direction/vision of the team.

Key areas of responsibility within the role of Specialist Practitioner Mental Health/Forensic:

• Provide support and advice to staff teams who are supporting people with a learning disability who have a mental health need and behaviours of concern.
• Provide training and development for teams who are supporting people with a learning disability, mental health need and/or behaviours of concern.
• Input into the assessment of people we are supporting with a learning disability, mental health need and/or behaviours of concern with the focus on the mental health needs and to help devise strategies to meet these needs.
• Support to teams in reviewing and developing PBS plans, personal support plans and risk assessments.
• To provide support and mentoring to teams working with people with a learning disability who have a mental health need and behaviours of concern.
• To work with the relevant professionals/multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the provision of effective support to individuals.  

The Ideal Candidate

Knowledge and experience of supporting people with a learning disability who have a mental health need and behaviours of concern.

Experience of working in a forensic setting supporting people.

Qualified degree level/ or qualification in a health or social care field and/or significant relevant experience.
