Senior HR Advisor

Job Introduction

What does it take to become a leading health and social care organisation in the UK?

It takes people who can turn lives around every day - providing encouragement, delivering innovative services and generally improving life for individuals with a learning disability or those affected by drug and alcohol misuse or mental health problems. But it's not just our front-line teams that make a difference. So do the dedicated professionals who work behind the scenes to support the vital work we do.

Of course to operate at this level we need to maintain a high performing and engaged workforce. And that is where you come in.

As a leading health and social care provider with more than 300 locations across England, we take real pride in the services we offer. Our people bring our vision to life. So, if you are enthusiastic, motivated and committed to support others to fulfilling their potential, here at Turning Point, we don't just offer you a job – we offer you a career. We are located in the heart of Manchester and are within close proximity to transport links.

At Turning Point, our people enable life‑changing services across health and social care. To support this, we are looking for an experienced Senior HR Advisor to provide high‑level, specialist Employee Relations expertise across the organisation.

This is a pivotal role for a confident HR professional who can lead on complex and high‑risk ER matters, act as a trusted partner to managers and stakeholders and coach and develop capability across the wider HR function.

You will operate with credibility, pragmatism and strong professional judgement, ensuring people‑related decisions are fair, values‑led and legally sound.

Role Responsibility

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Acting as a trusted advisor to leaders and managers, providing pragmatic, values‑led Employee Relations advice across a wide range of complex and sensitive matters
  • Leading complex ER cases including disciplinaries, grievances, appeals and high‑risk investigations, ensuring matters are managed fairly, consistently and in line with policy and legislation
  • Coaching and supporting managers to build confidence and capability in managing people issues effectively
  • Acting as a point of escalation for HR Advisors, offering guidance, challenge and professional support to build capability across the HR team
  • Identifying themes, trends and risks across ER activity and proactively recommending early interventions
  • Producing clear updates, reports and insights for stakeholders to support informed decision‑making
  • Supporting organisational change activity, including TUPE transfers and basic restructures, ensuring end‑to‑end people processes are managed effectively
  • Contributing to the development and review of people policies, ensuring they reflect legislative change and organisational priorities
  • Supporting the ER Manager with ACAS conciliation and Employment Tribunal preparation, where required

How you’ll operate

  • You build strong, trust‑based relationships and are seen as a credible and calm professional, particularly in high‑pressure or sensitive situations
  • You take a proactive, solutions‑focused approach, scanning for patterns and risks rather than reacting to issues in isolation
  • You balance support and challenge, coaching managers and HR colleagues to raise standards and capability
  • You manage a demanding caseload effectively, ensuring records, case notes and correspondence are clear, accurate and up to date

The Ideal Candidate

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience working at Senior HR Advisor level in a large, complex or matrix organisation
  • Strong expertise in complex Employee Relations case management, including high‑risk and sensitive matters
  • Experience of supporting or leading TUPE transfers and organisational change
  • Confidence in coaching managers and acting as an escalation point for HR colleagues
  • Experience producing ER data, insights and reports to inform decision‑making
  • Sound knowledge of UK employment law, with the ability to translate this into practical advice
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification (minimum)

You will appreciate the value of management information, identifying trends and taking action on it. You will be familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and able to maintain data records. You may have worked with iTrent. As part of the people team, you will be a great team player, willing to roll your sleeves up and turn your hand to anything; you will support your colleagues when they need help - just as they would for you. Hierarchy and status will not be important to you; you will simply want to do a good job. You will also be required to support the administration that the team requires.
