Rough Sleepers Recovery Worker
Job Introduction
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Turning Point’s Leicestershire & Rutland Substance Use Service as a Rough Sleepers Recovery Worker within Leicestershire. You’ll join a brand-new project aimed at supporting those who sleep rough, and are at risk of sleeping rough, into drug and alcohol treatment. We have new Rough Sleepers Recovery Worker roles available in a variety of locations across Leicestershire depending on need, which could include Coalville, Hinckley and Loughborough.
As a Rough Sleepers Recovery Worker, we offer a starting salary of £25,870 with annual pay progression up to £30,265 (Dependent on experience you may be offered a starting salary above the initial starting salary).
You will have opportunities to progress your career with a structured learning journey and clearly defined career pathways that will enable you to achieve your long term goals and work to your strengths.
Whether you are looking to progress into a management and leadership role or to be a specialist in your field as an Advanced Recovery Practitioner at Turning point we will support and encourage you on your career journey.
Role Responsibility
As a Rough Sleepers Recovery Worker your role will be all about being proactive and doing everything possible to support those sleeping rough into treatment. You will work with colleagues and partner agencies to run street-based outreach, as well as delivering drop ins and structured sessions within hostels and day centres.
You will have a small caseload of around 25 individuals sleeping rough or at risk of sleeping rough who you will support, enabling you to go above and beyond and do all possible to support into treatment and help to end rough sleeping in Leicestershire.
You will need to work flexibly to engage rough sleepers at times to suit them. This may include early morning outreach and breakfast sessions and evenings and weekend working as part of a rota within your team.
You will work in a brand-new Rough Sleepers Initiative Team alongside multidisciplinary colleagues and with the support of an experienced Team Manager.
The Ideal Candidate
You’ll have an understanding of substance and alcohol use and the challenges and opportunities for individuals on a recovery journey and those affected by homelessness. However, we also recognise that many people have transferrable skills from other backgrounds such as mental health, housing or other health and social care provision. The roles are varied, so flexibility, an ability to work dynamically on a one to one and group basis and knowledge of relapse and other barriers to recovery will be vital but we can help to shape these skills where needed. We also look for candidates with excellent communication skills and who share our values as an organisation. We value individuals with lived experience but also those who are just interested in this line of work.
The successful candidate will be a highly effective communicator, efficient and organised and have a real passion for supporting service users to engage in treatment. You must be engaging, enthusiastic and passionate, have a keen interest in substance use support.
