Rough Sleeper Recovery Coach - Hereford
Job Introduction
Please Note: A Full UK Driving License and Access to a Vehicle is an Essential Requirement.
The Herefordshire Recovery Service (located in the West Midlands) works across the county to support people with alcohol or other drugs use, including people struggling with their mental health, housing, and those who are involved with criminal justice. We have been awarded additional funding to support people sleeping rough, or those at risk of rough sleeping, ensuring they receive the care and support they need to stay safe and access treatment. As a result, we have several roles available to support this new model and we are seeking people to join our team and help us deliver our vision to provide new opportunities to vulnerable people.
As a Recovery Coach within the Herefordshire Recovery Service, you will make a real difference as you empower and enable people to change. Passionate about people, you will enjoy support to enhance your own life too, as you make the role your own in a friendly and multidisciplinary team.
As a Recovery Coach we offer a starting salary of £23k rising each year in line with our pay progression salary bands, rising to £27k per year.
You will have opportunities to progress your career with a structured learning journey and clearly defined career pathways that will enable you to achieve your long-term goals and work to your strengths.
Whether you are looking to progress into a management and leadership role or to be a specialist in your field as an Advanced Substance Misuse Practitioner at Turning point we will support and encourage you on your career journey.
Role Responsibility
Recovery Coaches act as ‘key workers’ to a caseload of service users, supporting them to develop plans to achieve their goals, maintaining regular contact with your clients, offering advice, information and psycho-social interventions as well as providing assessments, risk management planning and working closely with our clinical staff and partner agencies. Recovery Coaches will work proactively with new service users to offer a triage assessment and initial recovery plan, supporting them to engage and access structured treatment.
No day is the same in this role but an ability to communicate effectively with a range of service users and colleagues, an ability to manage a busy schedule and a commitment to Turning Point values is essential. You may have lived experience of substance misuse or come with experience supporting people in health and social care or hold a professional qualification such as social work, nursing or Health and Social Care.
You will join an established, multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, recovery workers and peer mentors and be encouraged to work alongside a range of partners in criminal justice, housing and health and social care.
As a Recovery Coach, you will spend time seeking out service users across the county, providing treatment and support in locations that support their engagement, and working to help people connect with treatment effectively. You will also be part of our ‘Out There Everywhere’ Team, using a mobile outreach vehicle to offer access to treatment in locations across the county and in partnership with key stakeholders (including housing).
The Ideal Candidate
You will understand substance and alcohol misuse and the challenges and opportunities for individuals on a recovery journey, you may also have lived experience in this area. The roles are varied, so flexibility, an ability to work dynamically on a one to one and group basis and knowledge of relapse and other barriers to recovery will be vital. We also look for candidates with excellent communication skills who share our values as an organisation.
We are actively seeking people who speak other languages (including Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, and Romanian).
We value individual creativity and initiative and, whatever your role, you will be fully involved in identifying opportunities to improve the quality of our services and the service user experience. Your ideas will be listened to, and your suggestions implemented wherever possible. You will be supported in your role by extensive training to help develop your skills. Our learning culture encourages everyone to stay on top of the latest developments in their field and helps drive service improvement.
Someone with local knowledge of the county will be an advantage but not essential. You will be required to travel across the county so being a car owner, having access to a vehicle, or having a valid UK driving licence will be essential.
