Recovery Worker - Leicester Crisis House
Job Introduction
At Turning Point we support many people across the UK with complex mental health issues. As a Mental Health Recovery Worker, you’ll make a difference to people’s lives as you support them on their Recovery journey and introduce them to the person centred, flexible and realistic support they need to improve the quality of their lives within the community. Passionate about people, you’ll enjoy the scope and support to enhance your own life and career too, as you gain the experience, training and education you need to progress in your career with us.
Leicestershire and Rutland crisis service was established in 2015 to work with people experiencing a mental health crisis who may otherwise need an admission to hospital. We aim to assist service users to overcome their crisis in variety of ways including one to one and group support, practical strategies to cope with symptoms, and advice and information to improve the person’s ability to live independently.
Role Responsibility
Working closely with other agencies to ensure that appropriate care and risk management plans are delivered, you will work in a variety of settings including a 6 bed crisis house; in the community delivering a range of outreach crisis support including out of hours crisis cafes; and via a 24/7 telephone Helpline. Due to varying locations where we deliver this support, (which includes both the City and the County of Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland) it is essential you either have access to transport or are willing to use public transport in order for you to carry out your day to day role.
You need to be flexible to work various shift patterns including weekends, bank holidays and overnights.
The Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for Recovery Workers who know how to build close relationships and gain people’s trust quickly. Although a qualification in Social Care would be an advantage, you don’t need any formal qualifications as full training will be given. Experience in a similar role and/or working on a helpline would also be a big advantage. What is essential is that you have a positive attitude, a willingness to ‘go the extra mile’ and an awareness of the issues experienced by people with mental health problems and can bring with you the flexibility to work in a 24-hour shift pattern. In return, you’ll be supported with outstanding training and career development opportunities.
In a role where no two days are the same your ability to work individually and as part of team to prioritise your workload, as well as having excellent communication skills, a flexible approach and a positive attitude in a changeable environment will be key.
We welcome applications from individuals who would like to work weekends, evenings or night shifts only.
