Recovery Worker - Herts Choices

Job Introduction

 

Raising the bar for people-centred outreach services, you’ll enable people to learn the skills and knowledge they need to understand and manage their own situation more independently. No matter how complex someone’s mental health needs, you’ll provide support that helps individuals to decrease isolation, integrate into the community and make the most of every new opportunity.

 

Full time  - outreach worker covering whole of Hertfordshire therefore driver is essential.

Role Responsibility

 

Herts Choices is a self-directed support service for adults with mental health issues living in Hertfordshire who have been assessed as being eligible for a personal budget. A flexible and creative service that is built around the individual enabling them to use their personal budget to buy support that promotes personal independence and recovery. Our underlying principles are:

 

  • Every individual is unique and every person requires support that’s purpose-built for them.
  • We can provide individually tailored community support to individuals recovering from mental health difficulties, ensuring that individuals are fully involved in deciding what support they would like, when they would like it and from whom.
  • We can cater for a wide variety of support needs and will tailor our package of support to the needs of each individual by fully involving service users in creating their own support package.
  • We know that different people will need and want different kinds of support and so we will provide a flexible and service user led service to ensure that we respond to each person in the way that is most helpful to them.
  • We can adjust our packages of support to reflect differences in areas of support, frequency of support and duration of support. We will work with individuals to create a person centred, recovery orientated support plan and work alongside individuals enabling them to learn the skills and knowledge that they need to understand and manage their own personal situation more independently in the future.
  • All support is tailored to the needs of the individual but below is a summary of the main areas of support that our outreach teams can provide:
  • The service can offer support in a wide variety of areas but the following covers some of the common areas:

 

  1. Emotional support
  2. Practical support
  3. Support with all aspects of housing needs
  4. Support with court hearings
  5. Support with negotiating rent arrear repayments
  6. Benefit and debt advice
  7. Access to employment/college/voluntary work
  8. Attending important appointments e.g. CPA, outpatients, GP’s, dentists, supervised access with their children, etc (can be anything in the community)
  9. Building social and life skills
  10. Signposting and supporting people to access other relevant services/ agencies
  11. Support to access recreational and leisure activities
  12. Advice and information
  13. Support with mediation
  14. Support to access health care (physical health care)
  15. Building confidence and self-esteem.
  16. Building social networks.
  17. Support to access services that specialise in employment/ voluntary work/ meaningful activity etc.

The Ideal Candidate

 

It’s an extremely varied Recovery Worker role that could include some evening or weekend visits (although it’s largely Mon-Fri 9-5), so flexibility and a car are important – especially as our catchment area means driving across the the Decorum area from our Stevenage ‘Housing Link’ base. We also look for Recovery Workers with the IT skills needed to write up reports, and excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
