Recovery Worker - Carers Support Service

Job Introduction

We support people across the UK with Mental Health a variety of additional needs. As a Recovery Worker within this service, you’ll make a real difference to the lives of individuals as you develop the personal, flexible and recovery-focused support plans they need to help turn things around. The Carers Support Service provides emotional and practical support (including breaks) to carers of adults over the age of 18 with mental health difficulties and/ or young onset dementia, learning disabilities, physical disabilities and elderly care who live in Hertfordshire.

We provide a personalised, responsive, flexible and professional service that enables carers and service users to access the support they need within their local community. The duration and frequency of breaks is agreed at the referral stage. The service will offer an initial assessment of needs and provide up to 18 hours of support to client/carers. The service will provide onward signposting to other appropriate services and refer individuals to the Local Authority for a statutory carers assessment.

Role Responsibility

The service is designed to complement rather than replace existing respite services. The service can:

  • provide carers with a regular short break from their caring role by spending time with the person whom they care for so that they can take some time out
  • provide carers and family with timely, creative and flexible support to meet their identified needs
  • work with service users with mental health needs to support them in their recovery, by identifying specific pieces of work that will build their independence, resilience and aspirations
  • work with individuals with young onset dementia to support them to remain active and maintain their current level of independence for as long as is possible
  • provide carers and service users support to resolve a wide range of real life problems, such as housing, finance and debt issues, access to other services, maintaining positive boundaries, and understanding diagnoses and mental health services
  • provide informal family support

 

The main work will take place from Monday to Friday but the service will operate 24/7 so you will need to make yourself available if required including bank holidays. You will be working 37 hours per week.

The Ideal Candidate

As a Recovery Worker you will be required to manage you own case load. The successful candidate should have experience working in mental health, ideally in an outreach setting. 

Having a full driving licence with business insurance to be able to transport service users and/or carers is essential. Mileage is paid - 40p per mile.
