Peer Support Worker

Turning Point’s Drug & Alcohol Wellbeing Service is seeking to recruit a Peer Support Worker.

At the Drug & Alcohol Wellbeing Service we support clients to live meaningful and fulfilling lives independent from substance use by addressing their needs including issues relating to drugs, alcohol, mental health, learning disabilities, housing and employment, training and education. We work closely with mutual aid and peer led organisations in the community.

As a Peer Support Worker we offer a starting salary of £23,808 + £3,633 ILW rising each year in line with our pay progression salary bands, rising to £27,850 + £3,633 ILW per year. (Dependent on experience you may be offered a starting salary above the initial starting salary).

Role Responsibility

As a Peer Support Worker, you will support individuals affected by substance and alcohol use to progress in their recovery journey. A key aspect of the role will be supporting service users to develop and implement personalised aftercare and recovery plans, helping them build resilience, access community resources, and maintain positive recovery outcomes.

You will also plan and deliver a range of physical activity and wellbeing sessions, encouraging engagement in healthy lifestyles and supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of service users. Using your lived experience, you will act as an advocate, mentor and coach, providing practical support, motivation and encouragement to individuals accessing the service.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have an understanding of substance and alcohol use and the challenges individuals may face in recovery. You will be passionate about supporting others and able to build positive and professional relationships with service users and colleagues.

A recognised qualification in Personal Training, Fitness Instruction, Exercise Referral, or a related fitness qualification is desirable. However, candidates who do not currently hold a qualification but can demonstrate a willingness and commitment to work towards one will also be considered

You will possess excellent communication skills, the ability to work flexibly in both one-to-one and group settings, and a commitment to Turning Point's values and recovery-focused approach.
