Peer Support Worker

Job Introduction

This exciting new development within Nottingham County welcomes enthusiastic applicants to apply for this rare opportunity to be involved in shaping a brand new service, that will support individuals with complex mental health needs.

Wood Street is a supported living service which will provide accommodation and support to  people who may have dual diagnoses, a history of drug and/or alcohol use and/or forensic histories.

Passionate about people, you’ll enjoy the scope -  supporting individuals to gain the skills to live independently. With an emphasis on key working, you’ll need to work flexibly to manage your own small caseload and help with the day to day running of the service.

As a Peer Support Worker, you’ll make a real difference to peoples lives,  lives as you work closely with people to help them achieve their potential. You will form part of a wider supportive team within the region and there is the opportunity for growth in the future.

The role is either full-time or part-time.

Role Responsibility

The role of the Peer Support Worker is to draw on your own personal, lived  experiences of your recovery journey - you will inspire hope to others who are experts by experience.

As a Peer Support Worker, you will work as part of a team to devise individually tailored support and risk management plans and ensure the smooth day to day running of the service.

Ultimately, you’ll play a vital role in helping them to gain skills and coping strategies, all while encouraging positive change and independence.

The role will require you to offer support face to face with residents in the community, individually and within group settings.

The Ideal Candidate

You will be able to demonstrate a good knowledge and value base in mental health and related issues. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor the message to the audience.

You will share ideas about ways of achieving recovery goals, drawing on personal experiences and a range of coping, self-help and self-management techniques.

You will model personal responsibility, self-awareness, self-belief, self-advocacy and hopefulness.

You will be able to deliver a range of treatments and interventions in a person centred, non-judgemental manner. You will have the ability to deal effectively and calmly with challenging situations.
