Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

At Turning Point, we support people across England with mental health issues. As a Housing Support Worker, you’ll make a real difference to their lives as you introduce them to the personal, flexible and realistic support they need to improve the quality of their lives in their communities. Passionate about people, you’ll enjoy the scope and support to enhance your own life and career too, as you gain the experience, training and education you need to progress in your career with us.

Turning Point and Hertfordshire Mind Network effectively work in partnership to deliver the County wide Peer Support Service. The service provides support to adults with mental health and other social needs including housing issues. We offer high quality support, to help people take control, improve the quality of their lives and face the future with confidence. No matter how complex a person’s needs, whether they’ve tried support services or not in the past, we can provide person-centred support that helps individuals decrease isolation, increase independence, learn new skills, integrate into the community and make the most of every new opportunity.

Please Note: Due to the nature of this role is it an essential requirement for applicants to have a Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle. Travel is required within South West of the County.

This is a part-time role - 24 hours per week.

Role Responsibility

You will work with the public and private sector organisations, including local Councils, Housing Associations and other Housing providers to develop the housing service to deliver positive outcomes to service users and carers. You will provide housing advice to service users and carers, with the flexibility to offer practical assistance to service users to regain and maintain control over their lives through the peer support service. You will be part of a diverse and established team based within Hertfordshire Mind Network, where you will support referral processes and general administration and day to day operations.

The Ideal Candidate

Knowledge of supporting people with mental health and housing issues is essential to this role. We are also looking for someone who is flexible and patient and is able to view situations from a service user's perspective.

Situations can sometimes be difficult and challenging, so you will need to be non-judgemental, empathic and offer a sensitive approach, inspiring hope and promoting recovery and have a good understanding of how to support people during these times.

We are ideally looking for someone with Level 2 NVQ in social care and a solid understanding of mental health and how it can impact on wellbeing. What is essential is that you have at least 6 months proven experience in a similar role along with a good awareness of mental health issues and housing experience or completion of a relevant degree. If you are a graduate from university and completed a relevant degree, you could be an ideal candidate for the service.

A testimonial from a current Turning Point employee at the service where this vacancy is based:

‘Turning Point is a great place to work for. I have been employed for nearly 2 years, working within the Peer Support Service, providing housing advice and support.  This has given me the opportunity to develop my knowledge of housing legislation and understanding client’s needs. I have created a good relationship with the whole team; they are very supportive and welcoming. ‘
