Parental Substance Misuse Worker - SDAS - Sedgemoor

We have a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and innovative Parental substance Misuse Worker to join our Substance misuse Service working in Somerset.   

This is a new and exciting service working in partnership with Somerset County Council’s Children’s services. Children’s Services have led on the development of a new approach to working with families through the Family Safeguarding Model. The model creates Family Safeguarding Teams who are multi-disciplinary and include professionals with specialisms in social work, domestic abuse, mental health, and substance misuse who provide high quality support to families with complex needs.

Role Responsibility

To provide high quality support and interventions to the highest risk families as part of the Family Safeguarding Team. This includes working with adults and young people with a history of substance misuse to achieve their goals and improve outcomes for the whole family.

The Parental Substance misuse workers will carry a case load and provide screening, comprehensive assessments, needle exchange, risk assessment and risk management, recovery planning & review. They will support access to medically assisted recovery (through titration and prescribing regimes), provide outreach services including home visits, deliver 1-1 key working sessions, as well as semi and structured groups to support families through engagement, detoxification, stabilisation and rehabilitation thus improving outcomes for both parents and children.

The Ideal Candidate

You’ll have proven experience in handling significant caseloads in a busy environment as a Recovery Worker or similar, you'll have a deep understanding of substance misuse and the Recovery Agenda. It's an extremely varied role, so flexibility, a track record of The Drugs and Alcohol National Occupational Standards (DANOS), compliance and knowledge of relapse and other barriers to recovery will be vital.  We are looking to recruit candidates with excellent communication skills and, ideally, a vocational qualification, such as an NVQ 3 or equivalent.

The successful applicant will be carrying out duties including the facilitation of workshops, managing of recovery coordination sessions, compiling risk assessments and risk management plans, care planning and producing reduction plans.
