PBS Practitioner

Job Introduction

This is the opportunity to join an innovative team as a PBS Practitioner in the Learning Disability and Mental Health Service influencing the best practice for the people we support. You will be supporting in our new service based in Kent, which is forever growing, if you like a fast-paced environment this area is for you.

The job will be a combination of home-working and travel to visit individuals and their teams in this location. The successful candidate will manage their own caseload of 10 individuals and plan their diary, which enables a work-life balance.

PBS Practitioner input will be offered to people with learning disabilities, autism and associated complex needs i.e. behaviors of concern, mental health conditions.

Role Responsibility

The post-holder will provide excellent Positive Behaviour Support, in line with the Positive Behaviour Support Framework. We are looking for someone who is a specialist in Autism.

Main duties:

  • Respond to PBS Referrals and hold a caseload, prioritised with support from the PBS Team Manager.
  • Ensure support teams are focused on enhancing the quality of life of people supported, promoting personal skill development and reducing/eliminating the use of restrictive practices
  • Respond to crisis situations in which a person is posing a risk to self and/or others and there is a risk of placement breakdown
  • Training and development for teams who are assisting individuals with Autism and/or behaviors of distress with reviewing and developing PBS plans.
  • Input to the assessment of people who are supporting people with Autism and/or behaviors of distress
  • To work with the relevant professionals/multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the provision of an effective support to those individuals that use access Turning Points services.
  • Maintain data analysis related to behavioural support to demonstrate justification for strategies employed and behavioral trends over time.

The Ideal Candidate

To effectively support operational teams, the post holder will have formal training in PBS e.g. BILD CAPBS Coaches or PBS diploma.

The ideal candidate will also be:

  • Have experience supporting people who have autism
  • Passionate, motivated and enthusiastic
  • Creative thinker and problem solver
  • Have a strong understanding of the values and ethos of positive behaviour support, person centred approaches and thinking, Active Support and Total Communication
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team and off own initiative
  • To engage professionally and respectively with others whilst advocating for excellent positive behaviour support to individuals
  • Contribute to best practice forums and networks and focus on continuous professional development to enhance the positive behaviour support offered to individuals
  • Excellent verbal, written and IT skills to ensure accurate and professional records and reports are developed as appropriate
