Outreach Recovery Worker - Suffolk Recovery Network (Bury St Edmunds)

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

At Turning Point, we support people across the UK with substance misuse issues. As a Recovery Worker, you’ll make a real difference to their lives as you develop the personal, flexible and realistic support packages they need to help turn things around and to embed the changes they make.

Role Responsibility

We are looking for a skilled youth worker to join our well regarded and busy countywide Youth team. This role is 22 hours a week and covers the West of the county. Therefore you will need to travel around the rural area to be able to meet the clients in their community.

You will be working with young people up to 25 years of age supporting them to address their substance misuse issues and make positive client lead changes.

You will hold a case load of young people who will come from a wide number of referral sources, who present with varied issues and vulnerabilities. Therefore an understanding of childhood adverse experiences and trauma informed care will be helpful.

You will helping them to learn more about drugs and alcohol, dispelling myths and supporting them to learn new and better ways to cope.

The Ideal Candidate

Within the role you will be looking at all aspects of the client’s life helping them to access other services where appropriate so an understanding of the youth offer across Suffolk is an advantage.  Due to the impact of Covid the support we offer is blended to include phone, face to face and email based interventions. Therefore computer literacy is vital as is the ability to engage, motivate and maintain a client’s motivation to their outcome.

You may work with a young person in their family home so confidence to manage family conflict and skills to support positive communication between your client and their care givers will be useful.

Substance misuse experience is an advantage but youth work experience is vital as you have to be able to engage young people who can be resistant to support.

You will be working using a multi-agency approach – looking at helping the client create a community support package that they can rely on into their future if needed. This will mean you will need to proactively work with partner agencies, fostering strong working relationships and professional friendships to support the needs of your client and help them gain the best outcomes.

You will be expected to be able to run targeted group sessions for young people at risk of becoming involved in drug or alcohol misuse. You would be expected to attend multi agency meetings regarding your clients so a good understanding of safeguarding is important.

As the role is outreach; good time management and diary management is vital.

You are responsible for all your own administration therefore you need to be computer literate and understand client records systems as well as being able to navigate meetings over Micro soft teams and other online meeting platforms.
