Outreach Recovery Worker - Herefordshire Recovery Service

Job Introduction

The Herefordshire Recovery Service (West Midlands) works across the county to support people with alcohol or other drug use, including people struggling with their mental health, housing, and those who are involved with criminal justice. We have been awarded additional funding to support people sleeping rough, or those at risk of rough sleeping, ensuring they receive the care and support they need to stay safe and access treatment. As a result, we are seeking someone to join our team and help us deliver our vision to provide new opportunities to vulnerable people.

As a Recovery Worker within the Herefordshire Recovery Service, you will make a real difference as you empower and enable people to change. Passionate about people, you will enjoy support to enhance your own life too, as you make the role your own in a friendly and multidisciplinary team.

Role Responsibility

Recovery workers act as ‘key workers’ to a caseload of service users, supporting them to develop plans to achieve their goals, maintaining regular contact with your clients, offering advice, information and psycho-social interventions as well as providing assessments, risk management planning and working closely with our clinical staff and partner agencies.

No day is the same in this role but an ability to communicate effectively with a range of service users and colleagues, an ability to manage a busy schedule and a commitment to Turning Point values is essential. You may have lived experience of substance misuse or come with experience supporting people in health and social care or hold a professional qualification such as social work, nursing or Health and Social Care.

You will join an established, multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, recovery workers and peer mentors and be encouraged to work alongside a range of partners in criminal justice, housing and health and social care.

As an Outreach Recovery Worker, you will spend time seeking out service users across the county, providing treatment and support in locations that support their engagement (i.e. hostels, community hubs, and street outreach), and working to help people engage in treatment effectively. You will also be part of our ‘Out There Everywhere’ Team, using a mobile outreach vehicle to offer access to treatment in locations across the county, and working in partnership with key stakeholders (including Housing).

The Ideal Candidate

You will understand substance and alcohol use and the challenges and opportunities for individuals on a recovery journey, you may also have lived experience (although this is not required), and knowledge of housing would be advantageous.

The role is varied, so flexibility, an ability to work dynamically on a one to one and group basis and knowledge of relapse and other barriers to recovery will be vital. We also look for candidates with excellent communication and IT skills who share our values as an organisation.

We value individual creativity and initiative and, whatever your role, you will be fully involved in identifying opportunities to improve the quality of our services and the service user experience. Your ideas will be listened to, and your suggestions implemented wherever possible. You will be supported in your role by extensive training to help develop your skills. Our learning culture encourages everyone to stay on top of the latest developments in their field and helps drive service improvement.

Someone with local knowledge of the county will be an advantage but not essential. You will be required to travel across the county so being a car owner or having access to a vehicle/holding a valid UK driving licence will be essential.
