Fixed Term Contract – Up to 12 months + Possible Extension

Right now, we are now looking for talented individuals to work within our community-based substance misuse services in Hackney in a variety of different roles within the Rough Sleeper Project.

The Rough Sleeper Project is delivered in partnership with other agencies in the community including street outreach teams, rough sleeper mental health services, housing services, local hospitals and Tier 4 treatment providers. There is a focus on partnership working throughout the service to support those with a history of homelessness and rough sleeping to access services, reduce harm and promote recovery.

In the role, you will receive monthly clinical supervision and reflective practice by qualified psychologists to support your practice and development.

Role Responsibility

To be part of a new team focused on enhancing access to support and recovery services for the rough sleeping community in the Hackney area. As part of new Public Health funded project, the new service has been designed to identify and remove barriers people who experience homelessness face. You will ensure the service practice is holistic and person centred, and is a tailored and co-produced treatment package, focusing solely on the rough sleeper’s goals. You will work to mitigate any physical or psychosocial barriers relating to service delivery being mostly outreach based and help create a long-lasting systemic change in service delivery to the rough sleeper population.

You will work alongside:

  • Three outreach workers
  • A clinical team including an outreach nurse and a consultant psychiatrist

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Requirements:

  • Understanding of the challenges experienced by people with a history of rough sleeping, enduring mental health difficulties and problematic substance use
  • Ability to work in a recovery orientated, person centred, non-judgemental manner
  • Ability to provide calm, consistent support to those experiencing a mental health crisis
  • Experience of working towards achieving individual and team objectives on the project’s performance
  • Good time management and able to work to deadlines and prioritise competing tasks
  • Confident and effective communicator
  • A good listener
  • Understanding of the importance of professional boundaries working with vulnerable people
  • Ability to work with multiple agencies and develop professional relationships across multiagency groups
  • Adaptable and able to work in a challenging and changeable environment
  • Ability to respond in a safe and professional manner to behaviour that challenges, including non-engagement or abusive behaviour, to ensure your own safety and that of service users
  • Experience managing large complex caseloads of up to 30 service users
