Occupational Therapist / Therapy Lead - Douglas House

Job Introduction

Douglas House provides a rehabilitation and Recovery service and enables people to live as independently as possible by improving health, both Mental and Physical to provide a better quality of life. The ‘recovery model’ which includes psychosocial interventions are all evidence based treatments and interventions.

Douglas House is looking for a part time OT to work 3 days a week and also to combine with a therapy lead role across two hospitals to coordinate and facilitate a quality rehabilitation programme in line with best practice within the therapy service. You will be based working alongside the therapy team that consists of an assistant psychologist and art therapist to deliver the therapy programme.

Role Responsibility

OT ROLE RESPONSIBILITY

We aspire to work in true partnership with our service users and encourage everyone to reach their full potential, whilst working to maintain their optimum level of independence towards a safe discharge into the community. Ultimately our aim is to maintain daily living skills alongside psycho-social interventions necessary to equip people to live more independently in the community with confidence.

Working alongside a professional experienced recovery team, you will develop therapeutic relationships with service users, completing necessary OT assessments and help them to develop appropriate skills for independent living. Douglas House is a service that gets great results for its service users, and has a friendly, caring and inclusive team.

THERAPY LEAD RESPONSIBILITY

Once a month you will be committed to individual line management supervision of all therapy staff. In addition you will asked to chair therapy meetings every 2 months with peers enabling to evaluate and develop unit programmes to ensure individual programmes meet the individual patient’s needs. Alongside this you will be expected to keep up to date with evidence best practice and promote a culture of ongoing best practice in line with NICE guidelines, ensuring the highest possible standards of quality and care in service delivery. You will become an integral part of the MDT to encourage a culture of continuous improvement and mutual cooperation in the delivery of the service undertaking audits of the therapy service and also be a student educator.

The Ideal Candidate

If you are someone who understands the importance of recovery and are passionate about seeing people achieve their best, then we want to hear from you. We need you to be an experienced qualified OT with an understanding of recovery models/approaches and a good understanding of mental health issues and the way in which they are managed.

You will be fully engaged in a range of activities, acting as a professional role model, you will also take part in clinical supervision. You will be line manager for the staff in the service, and have experience of managing staff.
