Mental Health Support Worker - Oldham Dispersed Accommodation

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

Everyone’s Turning Point is unique. It’s the moment when they realise they’ve made a small, but important, step forward. Very often, that small step is the start of something bigger. But only when the right support, advice and services are in place.

Working across several supported living properties in Oldham, you will support people to gain skills to live independently. With an emphasis on key working, you’ll need to work flexibly to manage your own small caseload and help with the day to day running of the services.

Passionate about supporting people, you'll enjoy the opportunity and support to enhance your own life and career too, as you make this role your own as part of our friendly, multidisciplinary team.

As a Mental Health Support Worker you can make a real difference in the lives of the people you support as you work closely with them to help them achieve their potential. Turning Point has several well-established services within Manchester. You will form part of a wider supportive management team within the region.

This role will involve working over a 12 week rolling Rota with sleep in shifts, early / late shifts, and every other weekend.

We also offer additional payment for each sleep shift completed.

We also have part-time positions available and we welcome applicants who can work only weekends, evenings or nights.

Role Responsibility

You’ll provide support that helps individuals to decrease isolation, integrate into the community and make the most of every new opportunity. People’s lives will be truly changed by you. So, we’ll offer the chance to thrive on a wide range of challenges as you support their recovery. This will include identifying ways of building their independence, resilience and aspirations, as well as providing informal support to their families too.

The day to day duties of a MH Support Worker consist of:

  • Key working service users on a 1:1 basis
  • Development of person centred support plans and risk assessments
  • Supporting individuals to manage their medication independently
  • Liaison with community based teams including: Mental Health Team, Consultant Psychiatrist, GPs, charities, activity based services, DWP etc
  • Supporting service users with daily living skills: shopping, cooking, prompts with personal care, cleaning and generally maintaining their tenancy

Please note that is is a lone-working role.

The Ideal Candidate

We’re ideally looking for a Support Worker with experience of working with people with long-term mental health issues. It’s essential that you have a good understanding of the recovery model, together with a solution-focused attitude and a person-centred approach. A team player with lots of energy, you’ll also need the strong communication skills, flexible approach and positive attitude needed to achieve targets in a challenging, changeable environment. With empathy, understanding and patience, we’ll not only expect you to like talking with people – but be passionate about helping them too.

A calm approach and ability to identify and manage risk will be essential.
