Medical Lead Substance Use Services

Are you an experienced Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist or Specialist GP in Addiction looking for the opportunity to shape and influence clinical practice within an ambitious, forward-thinking substance use service?

Turning Point is seeking a Clinical Lead to provide clinical leadership across our Integrated Substance Use Service in Wakefield. This is a unique opportunity to combine strategic leadership with direct clinical impact while helping to shape the future of substance use treatment in a service committed to innovation and excellence.

Working alongside an experienced leadership team, you will play a key role in developing clinical services, improving outcomes, supporting staff and responding to emerging challenges within substance use treatment, including increasing ketamine use and the emergence of synthetic opioids.

Whether you are a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist, Addiction Specialist or experienced GP with the appropriate addiction qualifications and experience, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference while enjoying flexibility and professional autonomy within a supportive organisation.

Role Responsibility

What You'll Be Responsible For

As Clinical Lead, you will:

  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight across the Wakefield service.
  • Support the delivery of safe, effective and evidence-based interventions.
  • Lead on clinical governance, quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring and development support to clinical colleagues.
  • Work collaboratively with local health partners and stakeholders.
  • Support service innovation and development.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and service improvement initiatives.
  • Influence how services respond to emerging trends within addiction treatment.

Turning Point has several integrated Substance Use services and the Clinical Leads meet regularly providing invaluable peer support for one another, supported via the Clinical Director

The successful candidate will:

  • have appropriate experience in addiction medicine at a clinical leadership level:
  • be a ‘Specialist’ doctor in addiction: either a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist or a specialist doctor from another background such as General Practice, who has the appropriate experience & qualifications (as per the RCPsych / RCGP Competency Framework)
  • have current GMC Registration
  • have experience of providing safe, effective and evidence-based assessment, care and interventions for substance users (ideally across both adults and young people)
