Housing Worker - City & Hackney

Job Introduction

At Turning Point, we are recognised leaders in helping people recover from addiction and gain control of their lives. By providing the right support at the right time, and making sure that people can find all the help they need, we have grown into one of the largest providers of substance misuse services in England and Wales. Right now, we are now looking for a talented Housing Worker to work within our community-based substance misuse services in the City of London and Hackney.

The service is delivered in partnership with Mind CHWF and London Friend and there is a focus on partnership working throughout the service to support those in the local community who need assistance to achieve their goals. We deliver treatment and support across the neighbourhoods ensuring a holistic and inclusive approach to recovery in this service.

As a Housing Worker you’ll have the chance to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support who are experiencing difficulties from drugs and alcohol use, working with them to develop the personal, flexible and realistic support packages they need to help turn things around.

Role Responsibility

To assist in delivering Turning Point’s strategy for preventing homelessness through outreach work and liaison with housing providers.

  • Provide outreach housing interventions to the homeless in City and Hackney including advocacy, housing applications and referrals
  • Support the development of housing pathways, protocols and partnerships
  • Engage with housing providers and to be a point of contact for the service.
  • Work flexibly in a variety of settings to create support plans that meet the needs of the service and clients.
  • Deliver excellent person-centred interventions with individuals for whom we provide support within the Service in accordance with agreed support plans.

The Ideal Candidate

  • An understanding of the issues faced by homeless, rough sleeping and socially isolated/vulnerable people
  • Caseload management of a complex nature
  • Able to deliver client support in a person- centred way
  • Demonstrable skills and knowledge in assessing risk presented by clients to themselves and others
  • Harm reduction, suicide and self-harm awareness
  • Wide and flexible range of client interventions
