Job Introduction
At Turning Point, we support people across the UK with substance misuse issues. As a Health Care Assistant in the Rochdale & Oldham Active Recovery Service (ROAR) you will be able to make a real difference in the lives of our service users. You will deliver interventions alongside, and under the supervision of, our nursing team to improve the health and wellbeing of our service users. As a Health Care Assistant we offer a starting salary of £23,000 rising each year in line with our pay progression salary bands, rising to £26,907 per year. (Dependent on experience you may be offered a starting salary above the initial starting salary).

Role Responsibility
The Health Care Assistant will work with our service users alongside colleagues to reduce the harms associated with alcohol and drug use. Examples of the interventions you will be supported to deliver include assessing people’s general health and identifying any concerns or needs, providing harm reduction advice and information, supporting our needle exchange delivery, undertaking tests for blood borne viruses and drug treatments, supporting our clients to monitor and take greater responsibility for their own health, supporting clients (alongside our nursing and recovery workers) as they undergo detoxification in the community. The role is varied and different every day, as we respond flexibly to the needs of our clients.
The Ideal Candidate
You will have an understanding of the health needs of users and the impact of drugs and alcohol. You will have some experience working in a health or social care setting, either paid or voluntary and a commitment to making a difference. We also look for candidates with excellent communication skills who share our values as an organisation and can maintain a non-judgemental approach to service users even where they may make unwise decisions. We value individual creativity and initiative and, whatever your role, you will be fully involved in identifying opportunities to improve the quality of our services and the service user experience. Your ideas will be listened to and your suggestions implemented wherever possible. You will be supported in your role by extensive training to help develop your skills.
