Group Work Recovery Worker

Job Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Group Recovery Worker to join Horizons, a vibrant new partnership delivering substance use treatment and recovery services in Bristol. Horizons is delivered in partnership between Turning Point, Bristol Drugs Project, and seven other local and national partners. The partnership combines Turning Point’s experience as an outstanding national substance use provider together with Bristol Drugs Project’s long history of excellent service delivery in the city.

Based in our central hub in Bristol you will be responsible for facilitating groups in our north, south, and central hubs. You will support the implementation of the psychosocial group programme working under the direction of the PSI Lead and the Group Lead. 

As a Group Recovery Worker we offer a starting salary of £25,116 rising each year in line with our pay progression salary bands, rising to £29,383 per year. (Dependent on experience you may be offered a starting salary above the initial starting salary).

Role Responsibility

You will join a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, recovery workers and peer mentors, Running groups for predominantly, but not exclusively, opiate service users within a locality/setting. As part of the role you will: 

  • Use evidence-based programmes, to support people to gain access to treatment to address their recovery goals. 
  • Work with the other staff within the team to deliver a range of programmes, including the Managing Alcohol Programme (MAP), Reclaim for non-opiate users, and the Recovery Skills Programme (RSP) to support long-term recovery.
  • Facilitate structured PSI groups to ensure that service users are provided with high quality group interventions to promote recovery. 
  • Promote and inspire the use of psychosocial interventions within the service. 
  • Encourage independence, wellbeing and healthy life choices amongst service users. 
  • Monitor, supervise and provide support to service users, working as part of a team with a client group with substance use issues. 
  • Promote the development of skills of peer mentors and volunteers in the delivery of PSI groups.
  • Promote the value of mutual aid and assertive linkage throughout the treatment system.
  • Provide cover across localities where required.

The Ideal Candidate

Ideally, You’ll have experience of delivering group work programmes, as well as an understanding of the theory behind the benefits of group work, and experience of using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI) skills to help empower service users to make sustained changes to their life. You’ll also understand substance and alcohol use and the challenges and opportunities for individuals on a recovery journey. However, we also recognise that many people have transferrable skills from other backgrounds such as mental health, housing or other health and social care provision and you will be supported in your role by extensive training to help develop your skills.

You will also have a passion for leading change and an excellent level of communication and organisational skills, including robust IT skills, and will share our values as an organisation.

Access to a full clean driving license is required
