Family & Carers Worker - Suffolk Drug & Alcohol Service
Job Introduction
Please Note: A Full UK Driving License and Access to a Vehicle is an Essential Requirement.
Suffolk Drug and Alcohol Service responds to the needs of people across the County to address the impact of substance use. From working with the person using drugs or alcohol to supporting their support network through the work the Foundations team does.
The Family and Carers role is specifically working with adults who support someone who is using drugs or alcohol and you will be based in the Foundations team.
This can be an emotionally demanding role as you will be hearing peoples personal stories of how their lives have been impacted by someone else’s choices and use. You will be given regular supervision, case management and peer supervision to help you manage your case load and the emotions that arise from working with this client group.
Role Responsibility
You will be responsible for a caseload of clients across the County and as such will be expected to work flexibly across different locations including lone working and home visits.
You will be expected to undertake assessments, psychosocial interventions on a one to one, group or digital basis, helping your clients to work their way through the structured programme ‘Steps to Cope’. You will create with the client a legacy support plan to help them reconnect with their community for ongoing support.
You will be responsible for setting up peer led support groups across the County alongside the Peer Mentor and Volunteer Co-ordinator to recruit mentors with lived experience of caring for someone who uses drugs or alcohol to help facilitate the groups.
You will join a multi-disciplinary team of Clinicians, Recovery Workers and Peer Mentors and be required to work alongside a range of partners in Social Care, Housing and Health and Wellbeing.
The Ideal Candidate
You will understand alcohol and other substance use issues and the impact the can have on the person using but also the wider family and be empathetic to those who find themselves affected by someone else’s choices.
The role is varied, so flexibility, an ability to work dynamically on a one-to-one and group basis is vital. As well as using a digital platform to support clients through a self-led support programme.
You will be tasked with promoting the service to partner agencies and the wider community, thinking outside the box as to how best to make sure those who need us know about what we do. This will include – but not be limited to: presentations, training sessions, leaflet creation, radio and other media platforms, meetings with professionals talking directly to families who are not sure if they need a service.
You will be able to balance the client facing work with the administrative elements of the role, such as data collection and report writing as well as updating client records on the client management system.
We also look for candidates with excellent communication and organisational skills who share our values as an organisation
You will be able to work effectively and productively towards key performance indicators helping to feed into the Foundation’s teams monthly reporting.
We value individual creativity and initiative and whatever your role, you will be fully involved in identifying opportunities to improve the quality of our services and the service user experience. Your ideas will be listened to, and your suggestions implemented wherever possible. You will be supported in your role by extensive training to help develop your skills. Our learning culture encourages everyone to stay on top of the latest developments in their field and helps drive service improvement.
