Employment Advisor - Wakefield Talking Therapies

Job Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Wakefield Talking Therapy Team as an Employment Advisor.

At Wakefield Talking Therapies we specialise in evidence-based psychological therapies.

We support people in the local area who are having difficulty in coping and who may be suffering from a common mental illness such as depression, anxiety or phobias. Our approach embeds the notion of wellbeing and recovery and promotes personal responsibility for lifestyle choices and self-management of mental wellbeing.

This is a hybrid role which involves working with clients through a mix of home working, community-based work, via telephone, and face to-face appointments so having access to a car is essential.

Role Responsibility

You will be working as part of a specialist team of employment advisors and working closely with clinicians who provide psychological therapies to people with common mental health problems.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • managing a caseload of clients who have experienced mental health problems and want support to obtain a job or to retain their existing employment
  • providing clients with careers advice and advice in respect of employment opportunities within the local labour market
  • conducting employment assessments
  • providing practical work focussed assistance to clients, including support with the completion of application forms, job search, CV writing and interview preparation
  • referring and signposting clients, where appropriate, to other agencies, organisations or advocacy service that can provide specialist support or advice

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to actively listen, empathise with people and provide person-centred support in a non-judgemental way.

You will have the ability to support people in a way that inspires trust and confidence, motivating others to reach their potential.

You will have experience in providing employment services and will have a good understanding of barriers to employment and difficulties faced by people with mental health conditions.

We are looking for candidates with excellent communication skills who are able to demonstrate a proactive and highly motivated attitude and can manage their time and workload effectively.
