Clinical Lead - ROAR

Job Introduction

We are currently recruiting for a Clinical Lead to work in our Rochdale and Oldham Active Recovery Service, where you’ll have the chance to make a real difference to the lives of the people, we support who are experiencing difficulties from drugs and alcohol usage.

Role Responsibility

The Clinical Lead will lead the service by:

  • Leading on all aspects of clinical governance and quality assurance, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness and patient safety.
  • Taking a lead on service development.
  • Acting as advisors on commissioning and implementation of policy.
  • Championing and leading research and innovation to develop new clinical guidance and service protocols.
  • Working with Turning Point colleagues nationally to optimize patient care.
  • Providing supervision, appraisal and training to clinical colleagues.

They will treat the most complex patients in the service, and will:

  • Provide expert advice to accountable officers and responsible officers
  • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatment/interventions and care for individuals presenting
    with alcohol and drug use problems
  • Clinically examine and assess client needs from a physiological and psychological perspective, and plan
    clinical care accordingly
  • Assess, diagnosis, plan, implement and evaluate interventions/treatments for clients with complex needs including dual diagnosis
  • Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to client needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice
  • Work with clients in order to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments
    Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication on medication regimens, side-effects and interactions
  • Support clients in their recovery including Opiate Substitution Treatment and Alcohol and Opiate detoxification and promotion of healthy lifestyles
    Assess, identify and refer clients presenting with physical and mental health needs
  • Ensure delivery of KPIs including Positive Treatment Exits, BBV testing and treatment by working collaboratively with partner agencies such as the HCV operational delivery network

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications:

  • Registered first level nurse MSc in Advanced Nursing or Clinical Practice or equivalent
  • Relevant nursing/health degree
  • Mentor/teaching qualification
  • Clinical supervision training and experience
  • Independent nurse prescriber

Knowledge:

  • Advanced clinical practice skills  - Management of clients with alcohol and drug use disorders
  • Management of patients with complex needs
  • Clinical examination skills
  • Accountability of own role and other roles in a nurse-led service
  • Local and national alcohol and drug policy
  • Wider health economy
  • Clinical governance issues in drug and alcohol services
  • Patient group directions and associated policy

Experience:

  • Significant post registration experience
  • Recent drug and alcohol service nursing experience
  • Nurse-led management of recovery oriented treatment
  • Compiling protocols and clinical guidelines
  • Clinical Leadership
  • Audit
  • Research
  • Nurse prescribing in substance misuse
