About Me
I am looking for individuals to support me here at Rix House Residential care home in Keighley and in my local community. I am a male in my 60’s with a diagnosis of Cerebella Ataxia, Brain Atrophy and Small Vessel disease all of which are different forms of brain conditions; I also have moderate learning and physical disabilities. I can also present with some complex behaviours of concern on a daily basis.
It is important to me, that I have a staff team that understands my various conditions and are patient and understanding towards me. I need a consistent approach with my support and need encouragement throughout the day to help me with me with my eating and drinking, personal hygiene, moving and handling and other activities that I may like to complete. It is also important to let me progress at my own pace and for staff to be able to recognise when I need space.
Communication is very important to me, and staff must get to know me well and understand my communication preferences, I sometimes like to have a laugh and a joke with you.
I enjoy lots of activities in and out of the community but currently due to the coronavirus I am unable to go out into the community as often as I like. I like to play my guitar, connect four, watching videos and listening to music. I like to be supported in doing some gardening when the weather is nice and play ball games when the weather is nice. I would like to be able to develop a good relationship with my support team so I can feel safe in the community when I eventually get to go out more frequently.
I have a very proactive, positive and close relationship with my sisters who are very involved with me.
