We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Assistant Psychologist to join the Turning Point multidisciplinary Drug & Alcohol Wellbeing Service in London which provides expert quality service to a number of Central London Boroughs. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic, creative and highly successful substance misuse service, providing high quality integrated health care and expert treatment for a diverse client group with substance misuse and associated mental health problems and their families and significant others including evidence based psychosocial and psychological interventions.
You would be joining a well-established multidisciplinary team consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, recovery wellbeing practitioners, support workers, experts by experience and peer mentors, ETE specialists, groups facilitators, social workers, family workers, counsellors and volunteers.
Role Responsibility
The role of the Assistant Psychologist is to support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the service across all sectors of care; assisting in the development, delivery and evaluation of an evidence-based model of psychosocial and psychological interventions for substance misuse and co-existing mental health problems under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the team’s policies, procedures, manuals and protocols.
The post holder will also assist in clinically related administration; administer questionnaires or standardised psychometric tests, conduct audits, collect data and statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
The post holder will receive clinical supervision and support from the Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist and other senior clinicians within the team. The post holder may also be required to work elsewhere within the area served by our Specialist services.
The Ideal Candidate
You will need at least a 2:1 degree in psychology and BPS Graduate Membership, an understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with substance misuse and/or mental health problems, experience of working in a health or social care setting, and good communication and research skills. Tailored induction and training will be provided to enable you to work effectively with this client group.
