Our commitment

Our approach to recruitment and selection

At Turning Point we take great care to make sure we have a fair and transparent recruitment and selection process – one that meets our equality and human rights objectives.

We don't have a central recruitment service at Turning Point. Instead, each service or department recruits to match the exact needs of their service users.

However, we do have a set of clearly defined and measurable competencies which we outline in each role profile. These help recruiting line managers to employ and/or promote on the basis of performance against these criteria. All our recruitment takes place on the basis of fair and open competition.

Equality and human rights

We welcome applications from all sections of the community and treat everyone who works at Turning Point, or uses our services, with dignity, equality, respect, fairness and autonomy. It is important to us that people are able to work in an environment in which everyone is valued equally and supported so they can take part with confidence. We challenge discrimination wherever it arises, and promote equality and human rights in all that we do and through the work we do in partnership with others. Read more about equality and human rights at Turning Point.

Two Ticks accreditation

The social care workplace is a challenging environment. Whilst at Turning Point we are keen to develop new skills and technologies to support our organisational goals it remains critical that we continue to strive towards breaking down the traditional barriers of workforce discrimination on the grounds of sex, race and religion. However, one barrier remains harder to break down than many others - disability.

Through our partnership with the disability employment advisors at Jobcentre Plus, we have secured continued accreditation to use the Disability Symbol, which demonstrates our commitment to meeting the needs of disabled employees. Read more about our Two Ticks accreditation.

Recruitment of ex-offenders

At Turning Point we are committed to working to Nacro's vision of a safer society where everyone belongs, human rights are respected and preventing crime means tackling social exclusion and re-integrating those who offend.

We understand that the lives of many of our services users are difficult and can result in involvement with the criminal justice system. We recognise that these instances may be a result of deeper issues which can be overcome and does not mean that people in these situations do not have valuable skills and experience to offer.

As a result of this, we have adopted a robust and fair approach to the recruitment of ex-offenders, where each application is assessed on an individual basis.

Criminal Records Bureau checks

Many of the roles at Turning Point involve working with vulnerable people and therefore staff fulfilling these roles are subject to a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. For more information on CRB checks visit http://www.crb.org.uk/
